The Brain and Neurological Disorders
When a family member has acquired brain injury (ABI), there are many questions to be answered, much new information to absorb and many decisions and details to sort out. ABI usually occurs as a result of serious trauma to the brain, such as a severe blow to the head or lack of oxygen or due to a neurological condition, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's, Motor Neurone Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington's Disease or a Brain Tumour.
BrainLink have produced a number of fact sheets about the brain, acquired brain injury and neurological conditions. You can navigate through them using the menu on your right.
Remember, the doctors and health care professionals supervising the care of your family member, and the support organisations dedicated to their condition, also have a wealth of information, support services and resources to offer you. Do seek their assistance.
