Hi, my name is Liz.
I was only diagnosed with MS just on 6 years ago.
It came as a very big shock, but I work on the idea that of all the things that I could have been diagnosed with, it was the best of a bad lot.
I haven’t let it stop me from doing much as I am still the same person but I have just slowed down a little.
Volunteering at BrainLink means a lot to me. It gives me the chance to give back to the organisation that helped me so much in learning about my problems.
I work with a wonderful bunch of people who have all had Acquired Brain Injuries. Some through accidents and many through unfortunate factors of birth. As a group we give our participants the opportunity to air all the problems that they face, in a non-threatening or judgemental environment. We work through many of those problems and give all the participants the opportunity to have a voice.
One of the first things that I have gained from being a volunteer has been to meet so many lovely people that have become my friends. It has also given me a chance to not feel sorry for myself, as there is always someone who is worse off than me.
I hope that my involvement with the Lifemoves Program has given all those involved a different platform to laugh together, and to cry together without fear of being criticized.
