In July 2021, Alexa Leary’s life changed dramatically. At 22 a severe bike accident left her critically injured. Alexa spent 111 days in the hospital, unable to remember her own name. Doctors doubted she would walk, talk, or lead a normal life again.
Despite the grim prognosis, Alexa’s determination and her family’s unwavering support helped her make remarkable progress. She regained her ability to walk and gradually returned to swimming, reigniting her passion.
Alexa set a new goal: to become a Paralympian. Training for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, she won her first individual gold medal in the women’s 100m freestyle, setting a new world record.

Now, as an ambassador for the BrainLink Christmas Appeal “Season of Hope,” Alexa raises awareness and support for families impacted by brain injury. Services like BrainLink provide essential resources and support for recovery. Through the Season of Hope campaign, Alexa highlights the importance of long-term care and recovery.
