ABI and Online Safety

Navigating the digital world can be challenging, especially for individuals living with an acquired brain injury (ABI). At BrainLink, we are committed to supporting people living with a brain injury who can be vulnerable to cyber threats. We recognise the CyberAbility program, developed by Monash University, alongside the eSafety Commissioner, the Summer Foundation and Brain Injury Matters to help us understand how people with a brain injury can stay safe from scams.

What is CyberAbility?

CyberAbility is an initiative developed collaboratively by Monash University researchers, individuals with lived experience of brain injury and scams, and disability services. The program aims to understand and mitigate the risks of online scams for people with ABI by providing:

  • Free Online Training: An 8-topic course covering scam awareness, red flags, romance scams, and more.

  • The CyberAbility Scale: An assessment tool to evaluate one's vulnerability to online scams.

  • Support Resources: Access to support programs and community discussions.

These resources are co-designed with input from individuals who have experienced scams post-ABI, ensuring relevance and effectiveness.
