Brain Injury Awareness Week

Martin Waller - The Champion Sailor

August 05, 2026

Martin (Marty) Waller has been part of the BrainLink community for many years, receiving NDIS Support Coordination to help him achieve his goals and continue living life on his own terms.

One goal has always remained constant, his passion for sailing.

Despite the challenges of living with a brain injury, Marty never lost sight of his ambition to compete. Sailing is a highly technical and physically demanding sport and participating at a competitive level required specialised modifications and adaptive equipment for his sailboat. Working alongside Marty, BrainLink helped coordinate the NDIS funding needed to make these modifications a reality, ensuring he had the support and resources to pursue his dream safely and confidently.

Marty's determination, resilience and commitment recently culminated in his greatest achievement yet, winning the South Australia Sailing Championships as a solo sailor.

The adaptive modifications not only helped Marty achieve this remarkable milestone but will continue to support him to compete, build his confidence and enjoy the independence that sailing brings for years to come.

Marty's story demonstrates that with the right support and understanding of a person's aspirations, barriers can be overcome in the pursue the passions that give life meaning and purpose.

At BrainLink, we are incredibly proud to have been part of Marty's journey. Go Marty!!!
